Oh sure. Blame the cats. My cats do not go outdoors so I think they have an airtight alibi.

Something is in the basement...
by frozen one inthis morning i was doing my typical sunday morning routine, which consists of pretty much nothing, and went to the kitchen for a coffee.
i noticed that one of my cats was sitting next to the basement door which was an odd place for the cat to be sitting but i didn't give it a second thought.
a bit later i went to refill my coffee cup and the cat was in the same place.

There could be a number of reading materials in there. I don't allow Glamour magazine though.

This morning I was doing my typical Sunday morning routine, which consists of pretty much nothing, and went to the kitchen for a coffee. I noticed that one of my cats was sitting next to the basement door which was an odd place for the cat to be sitting but I didn't give it a second thought. A bit later I went to refill my coffee cup and the cat was in the same place. The only difference was the cat was staring intently at the bottom of the door. There was something down there. I listened at the door but didn't hear anything. Deciding I had no choice but go down and investigate, I put on my shoes and grabbed some equipment: cell phone, flashlight, and a pistol.
I opened the basement door and turned on the light. The first thing I noticed was a mop that usually leans in a corner was knocked over. I checked the sidedoor that leads from the outside into the basement and it was closed, locked, and intact. I began down the stairs. When I reached the bottom, an intruder emerged. It was a bird!! The bird started flying around trying to escape, but had no exit. I went back up to the sidedoor, opened it, and then went back down to get the bird flying in the right direction. After the bird had made its escape, I closed the sidedoor and inspected the basement. No windows were open or broken and I didn't feel any cold drafts coming in. I looked and looked. No openings anywhere. I can't imagine that it came down the chimney. There is a snow cover at the top it would have had to get around and then a 40 foot drop to the bottom with no openings for the bird to crawl through. That bird could not have been in my basement for long as there is no food or water available. How it got into my basement is a mystery.

Bluetooth Headsets: Geeky or Sexy?
by Elsewhere inas a programmer i am exposed to high technology all the time and ironically this has given me an odd aversion to it!
i like gadgets and gizmos like anyone else; however i demand it be discrete.
when i'm out-n-about i want to be connected, but at the same time i don't want anyone to be able to see it.. for years i have avoided the bluetooth headsets that appear to be gaining in popularity, however im still not quite ready to get one because of the obvious geek factor and the simple fact that many people who wear them appear to be making the "look at me, i've fancy" statement.

I was at a wedding reception last year and saw an elder from my parents kh. The guy is probably in his 70's now and he was wearing a bluetooth gadget and looked ultra cool. Really. A 70ish jw elder wearing bluetooth at a wedding reception. And people think old elders are not hip. The same guy is a diabetic and when insulin pumps first came out he got one. He'd stand up on the platform with his suit coat pulled back so everyone could see he had the pump. I guess he would fall in the "look at me" category.

Quentin Tarantino puts together great soundtracks for his movies. Kill Bill 1&2, Pulp Fiction, and Reservoir Dogs come to mind. Prince's Purple Rain soundtrack is really good also.

Article on "Success. How Do You Measure it?" Jan. 1st. 2007 Watchtower
by Warlock inthe article starts out with the example of jesse livermore, arguably, the greatest stockmarket trader in history.
it goes on to say he wore the finest hand made suits, lived in a 29 room mansion, and had a chauffeur-driven rolls royce.
in the 3rd paragraph, it talks about how, despite his wealth, his life was filled with heartbreak, tragedy, and sorrow.

Maybe one day an article will be published about Brother or Sister Pioneer who was one of the greatest pioneers in witless history until after years of living in poverty and living with undiagnosed/untreated depression and coming to the realization that everything they believed in was phoney they eventually committed suicide.

i'm in shock!
by Sunnygal41 inafter 13 years with the same car, at the beginning the week i became the proud owner of a 2002 chrysler pt cruiser!
she is the most beautiful car i've ever owned............she's candy apple red, with leather seats that are heated, sun/moon roof, chrome wheels.
when i picked her up from the dealer, i didn't even feel like i should own this car, as she is more gorgeous than i could ever imagine..........anyways, i had to share my deep thanks to the universe with y'all............i am deeply happy to have a reliable, warm, safe, but absolutely gorgeous, car to drive.........perhaps it's also partly because i will be 50 years old in august............another wonderful milestone in my life......... smooches,.

I bought a truck last year that came with heated leather seats and I thought they were a stupid extravagence. The morning after I brought the truck home was cold so I flicked on the heated seats and...oooooohhhh...I had no idea that I had been living a horrid life of hardship and deprivation. The next time I take it in for a service I'm having a remote starter installed. I wonder if I can rig the remote starter to turn on the heated seats? Have fun with your new ride.

Crimewatch - LIVE at my flat! & Have you been a victim?
by Crumpet inso this is my 7th night living in my new place.
last night i was getting ready to watch crimewatch on bbc1 when i hear some strange noises out the back.
i take a look - there's two men breaking in to the flat next door but one - breaking the glass and then climbing in.. shortly after whilst i am still wondering if i really saw that - i am making a cup of tea and look out of my kitchen window and see a dubious character in a baseball cap trying car doors then stomping away and then coming back.

Yes. I had a visit from a burgler last summer. I posted about it here:
http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/117022/2052703/post.ashx#2052703
Anyway it sucks when trouble makers are about the neighborhood. Do you have anything like Block Clubs or Crime Watch where you live? I would guess most of your neighbors are good people who are sick of thieves and thugs hanging about. Dial up the cops and ask if they have any sort of crime prevention training available. If they do let your neighbors know and set up a meeting. Guns (I have several), mace and/or pepper spray, alarms, etc are all good ideas but getting a group of like minded people together and looking out for each other is a great deterrent to crime. My Block Club swings into action anytime things start getting out of hand and it doesn't take long for the neighborhood to go back to normal. When you contact the police about crime prevention programs ask if certain officers are assigned to your specific neighborhood. Get to know these officers. It is a relationship that comes in handy if something happens.
For personal protection I would suggest purchasing a back saw (http://www.technologystudent.com/equip1/bksaw1.htm) and have it somewhere handy. You can put an incredible hurt on an attacker with a handsaw. Any hardware store or building center will have them in stock.

Who is the most influential figure in the history of human civilization?
by Blueblades inwherever you stand on the god question, or, think you do, i believe god is the most influential figure in the history of human civilization.
not just any god, but the god that created adam and eve; the god of abraham, the god of the jews; the god of the christians; and the god of islam.
what sort of character does he have?

My nominee is the person who figured out sanitary sewers. Without proper sewers civilization flounders. Here's a link to backup my claim.

I have a second cousin who heard from a friend who knows someone who met this guy who swears he heard it from a high ranking source...whew...that if you play a recording of someone saying the word "internet" backwards you will hear a demonic voice proclaiming, "All hail Satan who is your master. Satan is the true Lord over all of you. Evil is good and good is evil. Bow to Satan. BOW TO SATAN!!!"
Scary stuff. Stay away from the internet.
